Nottingham Trent University create new experiential work zones with support from Constellations

During the peak of the pandemic, Nottingham Trent University (NTU) staff shared how restrictions negatively impacted on their ability to collaborate and connect with others or work effectively in quiet or confidential spaces when on campus. NTU’s new “Ways of Working Innovation Hub” is a temporary space, arranged in experiential work zones for staff to explore solutions to these problems.

This academic year, NTU has made a commitment to test and learn new ways of working, and the different work zones within the Innovation Hub were designed with this in mind. Our Constellations team used the layout and mood board plans provided by NTU to bring their vision to life. We worked with two of our suppliers to provide meeting pod furniture for larger collaborative spaces that can be used for discussions with colleagues, team meetings, and creating community – ‘staff common rooms’. We also sourced artificial plants, lamps etc. to help provide the right acoustics and lighting for each of the different work zones.

The hub will be open until Friday 17 December at 23 Goldsmith Street to enable NTU employees to explore new ways to connect, communicate and collaborate whilst maintaining a sense of community and a sense of purpose.

Our client’s feedback:

“I’ve worked with Constellations on a number of projects on the design side over the last few years and have always found their team to be proactively helpful and provide quality products. In the planning, preparation and implementation of the ‘Ways of Working Innovation Hub’, Constellations provided great assistance with their knowledge of products and links to suppliers to enable us to offer potential solutions to our future working needs.” – Chris Hedley (Design Manager, NTU Construction Services)

What do NTU staff think of their work spaces?

“A more inspiring place to hold 1 to 1s and small group chats.”

“Comfortable and less formal, making a nicer environment to work.”

“Easy to rearrange space with lots of seating options makes it a really flexible space. We held two meetings here today and it was really useful. Good as well that one group can split off for a short time and be nearby then return as needed.”
