Constellations support NTU with huge rebrand

Constellations support NTU rebrand

Nottingham Trent University’s (NTU) external signage has remained the same for the past 8 years. When the first COVID-19 lockdown arrived, NTU used the time to their advantage and dreamed up a rebrand. Leading on the project was Will Lomas, originally seconded as Brand Project Manager, now Creative Manager for NTU.

The task was not to be taken lightly, as for a large number of people, NTU’s signage will be their first contact with the business. Looking to create something bold and confident, reflecting the organisation’s brand and values, Will and his team chose a clear, confident design favouring legibility and ease of use.

Information hierarchy was a key aspect of the design work, with a ‘highlight zone’ created to showcase the most important information on display. A highlight bar was also incorporated into the design to provide a prominent visual reference, while clear colour contrasts were included to denote secondary information. Will and his team produced a design that would both be fit for a range of monoliths and building signs and also translate well to smaller, on-campus wayfinding signs.

Once the designs had been finalised, Will contacted our Managing Director, Graeme Scott, entrusting the team with the manufacturing and installation of the new signage. The scale of the project was incredible – the task of reviewing the signage alone required travelling a distance of over 18 miles – with external signage, monoliths and windows rebranded and reskinned across NTU’s Clifton, City and Brackenhurst campuses.

Phase 2 of NTU’s rebrand is soon to begin with further support from our team.

Our client’s feedback:

“Working with Graeme and the Constellations team has been fantastic!

“The previous NTU signage has stood for some time, and with the rebrand we essentially had to start from scratch.

“Whilst my team and I worked on the creatives, Constellations worked with us to make it happen – from manufacturing through to installation.

“They were very accommodating, particularly as we went through a lot of  print sampling to find the right colour. They also supported with test sample signage to see how the material and application weathered outdoors.

“There was a lot of pressure to roll out the rebrand and for the signage to look attractive to a range of stakeholders, and Constellations’ knowledge and expertise were invaluable in getting this project over the line. I look forward to working with them on phase 2.” – Will Lomas (Creative Manager at NTU)
